I believe that this clarification is ultimately insignificant to my point. It results in the same outcome and such an outlook may only be modified by you. Is there any particular skill you believe you lack which leaves you ill-suited to the position in which you find yourself? It may be beneficial for you to discuss this and seek out a solution.

[ But that's easier said than done and doesn't address what he believes is the more complex and contentious of Yashiki's points. He reads his words twice over, silently debating them under the umbrella of sheer logic... but what Yashiki speaks of is guilt. Guilt is one of the most illogical emotions of all. ]

You have a responsibility. What is not your duty is to guess at the feelings of those hurt by your family. Their perspectives are unknown and likely differ. All that remains is for you to act in accordance with what you do know they need.

You really think about these things quite well. I'm not sure how we got on this topic, but you're really a person that just cares a lot about people, aren't you, Commander Spock?

Spock's bias where Kirk is concerned, whether he'd like to dress it up with claims of logic or not, is undeniable. There's no one he would compare to him, save for perhaps his previous captain Christopher Pike, and thus there is no argument for him to make – isn't Yashiki being too hard on himself, even still? ]

I am a representative of the Federation. Our aims are peaceful and, to the extent that they can be, friendly towards those we encounter. If I am able to help you, then I will.

When you put it like that, I don't have to give you the same speech I give others.

[ Even if the spiritual entity is hostile, it is something that is just hurting and just needs sympathy and understanding to escape its pain. That's the most logical response to take, isn't it?

But what's that about Spock saying that he has to first be willing to help himself? What does that mean? Help himself do what? He wonders but he feels a little anxious talking about himself so much to Spock.

Commander Spock, why did you join the Federation? I'm sorry. It probably seems so sudden to ask such a question, but I wonder why it is that you joined them. It was to help other species?

I will take such a statement as a positive.

I was, however, born a member of the Federation. My planet and its people were founding members of the alliance, one which has been in place since the mid-23rd century.

What I believe you intended to ask is why I joined Starfleet, the Federation's exploratory and military branch. I can say that it was not to aid other species, though it would be preferable to be able to claim so.

Because of the behaviors of other species, particularly humans.

[ Which isn't... something he wishes to have to say either, but there's no lie in it. ]

Many Vulcans find humans to be unnecessarily violent and regressive. Therefore to be part of any sort of military organization with them is challenging.

That's understandable.

But I'm sure a person like Kirk has put a lot of their concerns aside, right?

The captain commands a certain amount of warranted respect, yes. However, he is one man. His influence is great but it is easy for my people to consider him an exception and not a rule.

Vulcans have allied with humans but to trust them without misgivings is, to them, illogical.

I guess that makes sense.

But I feel the more humans that interact with him, the more they will change for the better, too. Then, he won't be the exception but the rule that others will follow.

Though, saying that, I fear that puts a lot of expectations on him. However, I don't mean it like he has to do it, but it is something that seems like it will happen naturally.
